The Brazilian Óscar and Frank Lampard got first half goals for Chelsea in the 2-0 win over newly promoted Hull City. The London side began a new era with Jose Mourinho back at the club and with Fernando Torres as the only Spaniard in the starting line up.
Mourinho's side wasted no time in dispensing with their opponents with the game won in the first 25 minutes.
The deficit could have been greater had Lampard not missed a penalty on six minutes, but seven minutes later Oscar met a Kevin de Bruyne cross to give his side the lead. Lampard doubled the lead with a free kick that closed the scoring.
Torres was the only Spaniard chosen after Mata was left out and Azpilicueta was rested after playing for Spain in Ecuador on Wednesday.
